Balfour Wind Energy Constructors, a joint venture between Balfour Beatty Construction and Wind Energy Constructors, together with SW1, a joint venture between DeWind Energy Development and Higher Perpetual Energy, have started building work at the 20MW Pringle Wind Farm in the Texas Panhandle.

The announcement was made during the American Wind Energy Association¡¯s annual Windpower Conference and Exposition.

In early 2010, SW1¡¯s operational subsidiaries awarded DeWind Co. the $30 million contract, consisting of 10 units of DeWind¡¯s D8.2 model turbines.

¡°We expect our new D8.2 generators to become widely recognized in the U.S. through this project,¡± said Robert Rugh, president of DeWind Co.

In late 2009, Balfour Beatty and Wind Energy Constructors formed their joint venture. In addition to the Pringle project, Balfour Wind Energy Constructors is currently constructing the 150MW Phase I of the Alta Wind Energy Center near Tehachapi, California.

¡°Our combined strength and abilities allow us to handle concurrent projects throughout the western US in complex and difficult sites,¡± said Mark Bradley, project director for Balfour Wind Energy Constructors.

Construction of the Pringle wind farm is scheduled for completion by the end of the third quarter of this year.
